Chandpur Businessman Disappears Nine Days Ago; Relatives Raise Alarm
A businessman has been missing for over nine days in Bangladesh's Chandpur district, prompting his family to file a police report amid growing fears of abduction or murder stemming from potential business disputes or past rivalries. Radhu Chandra Das, 48, of South Baispur village in Matlab South Upazila, was last seen leaving his home on May 14.
Das, who operates a food stall and tea shop in the Ratha Bazar area of the upazila headquarters, departed his residence around 6 AM on May 14 without informing his family. He has not returned since, and extensive searches in all probable locations have yielded no trace of him.
His wife, Kakoli Rani Das, filed a general diary (GD) at Matlab South Police Station on May 16 regarding his disappearance. Das's younger brother, Rajan Chandra Das, expressed profound anxiety over his brother's whereabouts, stating that the entire family is in distress.
Rajan Chandra Das voiced concerns that his brother might have been killed or forcibly disappeared due to pre-existing animosities or conflicts related to his business dealings. He also noted that their elderly and ailing father has experienced a decline in health due to the stress of his son's prolonged absence.
Kakoli Rani Das shared her anguish, stating, "I still haven't found my husband. I don't know if he is alive or if someone has killed him. My school-going son keeps calling for his father." She added, "I am dying of tension. My eyes are blurred from crying, and there is no news of my husband."
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Hafizur Rahman Manik of Matlab South Police Station confirmed that authorities are actively searching for Radhu Chandra Das. "We have not yet located the businessman," OC Manik said, "and efforts are ongoing to find him."
