A teenager died after drowning in a pond in Azimpur Colony

A teenager named Mohtasim Haque Zahim (15) died after drowning in a pond in Azimpur Government Colony of the capital. He was a class VIII student of Birshrestha Noor Mohammad School and College.
This incident happened on Monday around 3:30 p.m. Later, he was rescued in an unconscious state and taken to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College (Dhamek) Hospital at around 4:45 pm. After examination, the doctor declared him dead.
Inspector in charge of DMK Police Camp. Farooq said that the body has been kept in the hospital morgue. The matter has been reported to the concerned police station.
Abdul Quddus, the rescuer who was brought to the hospital, said that a teenager had drowned after going down to the pond with his friends in the afternoon. Later, he went down to the pond and after searching for a few minutes, he rescued Jahim in an unconscious state. After that, when he was taken to DMK Hospital, the doctor declared him dead.
According to Jahim’s friend Mahir Abrar, Jahim called him from home at noon. Later they go to the pond. When Jahim wanted to go into the water, he repeatedly forbade him. Because Jahim did not know how to swim. Still, Jahim entered the water. At one stage, Jahim tried to pull him up as he sank into the water. At that time, when Jahim caught him, both of them drowned in the water. But even if he could swim up, Jahim could not. Later, with the help of local people, he was rescued and taken to the hospital.
Zahim’s father Safiul Haque rushed to the DMK hospital after receiving the news. He said, at noon, the boy left the house to see the cows. Later, it was reported that he had drowned. He came to the hospital and found his son dead.
