A section of the student union demanded the construction of an emergency field hospital for the treatment of measles

Bangladesh Students Union (Ekshan) has demanded the trial of the guilty persons including former interim government chief adviser Muhammad Yunus, health adviser Noorjahan Begum in the death of more than 350,000 children due to measles in the country. At the same time, the organization demanded the nationalization of the medical system and the construction of an emergency field hospital for the treatment of measles.
These demands were announced from a protest rally organized at the foot of the Raju sculpture of Dhaka University on Sunday afternoon.

Under the chairmanship of Central President Tamjid Haider Chanchal and general secretary Shimul Kumbhakar, Dhaka University Branch President Meghmallar Basu, Jahangirnagar University Branch General Secretary Faizan Ahmed Ork, Dhaka Metropolitan Branch Convenor Asif Zaman, Private University Branch Vice President KM Abdullah Nishat and others addressed the gathering.
Tamjeed Haider Chanchal in the President’s speech said that the medical system should be fully nationalized and the medical business should be eradicated. The state should take the responsibility of ensuring the fundamental rights of the people of the country. Condemning the role of DACSU leaders regarding the construction of a field hospital in the central playground of Dhaka University, he further said that people’s health should not be traded. The fundamental rights of the people cannot be undermined for the commercial interests of any private hospital. He called for a united struggle of the students to completely eliminate commercialization in the education and health sectors.

Meghmallar Bose, president of the Dhaka University branch of the student union, said that there is a strange similarity between the current government and the opposition in the case of child deaths. Even in the Parliament session, no proper initiative or discussion is seen on infant mortality. He said UNICEF had warned the Yunus government about the measles crisis and infant mortality. But Muhammad Yunus and the health adviser did not take any action to prevent the death of so many children. The Kandari Yunus government and the current government must also take responsibility for this structural murder.
Jahangirnagar University Branch General Secretary Faizan Ahmed Ork said, “After the fall of old oppressors, new oppressors come, but we cannot get out of this loop (circle). Along with the education sector, the health sector has also been commercialized. This commercialization of the health sector is one of the reasons for the death of three and a half hundred children.
After the rally, the student union leaders took out a protest march. The procession starts from Raju Bhaskarya, goes around Kalabhavan, Daksu and Central Library and ends at Raju Bhaskarya.
