A RAB member was stabbed to death while trying to catch a ‘drug dealer’ who was being chased by the police

A member of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-9) named Eamon Acharya was killed by a drug dealer in Sylhet. The incident took place near Kotwali Model Police Station in the city at around 12:30 pm on Friday.
Kotwali Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khan Muhammad Mainul Zakir told Prothom Alo that the accused Asadul Alam Bappi was immediately arrested by the police.
According to the police, some identified drug dealers were consuming and selling drugs in the Kinbridge area at noon. They are also locally known as robbers. A police patrol saw them and chased them. At this time, the members of the drug dealer gang ran. A drug dealer named Asadul Alam Bappi then ran towards the road of Topkhana area. RAB constable Eamon Acharya was walking in front of Sylhet divisional forest officer’s office on that road. At this time, he caught the drug dealer in a flash. Immediately, Asadul hit the RAB member on the left side of his chest with a knife. Later, Emon was taken to Osmani Medical College Hospital in a bloody state, where he died around 1:30 pm.
The police also said that when Asadul fled after stabbing the RAB member, the policemen also chased him. At that time, Asadul entered a house in Topkhana area and held a knife to the throat of a child and tried to escape by taking the family members hostage. However, the police arrested him with a trick. At that time, the police also seized the knife that was with Asadul.
