A pickup rammed into a covered van parked on the expressway, killing the driver and his assistant

A pickup driver and his assistant were killed after hitting a covered van parked on the expressway in Faridpur. The accident took place at Pulia flyover area of Bhanga upazila at approximately 3:40 pm on Wednesday night.
The two deceased are Prabir Roy (36) of Bairagi Kumar area of Lalmonirhat Sadar Upazila and his assistant (helper) Jewel (17) son of Abdul Hakim of Andharijhar area of Bhurungamari Upazila of Kurigram.
According to highway police and local sources, at the time of the accident, a large covered van had broken down and was standing on the right side of the road in the Dhaka-bound lane of the Dhaka-Bhanga Expressway. Meanwhile, a Dhaka-bound pickup van coming from the same direction lost control and hit the big car standing in front of it from behind. This causes the front part of the pickup to twist. The front of the pickup plowed into the large covered van in the collision. The driver of the pickup and his assistant were seriously injured.
Police and fire service members of Shivchar Highway police station came to the spot after receiving the information. The two were rescued from there and taken to Bhanga Upazila Health Complex around 5 am on Thursday. The doctor there said that they died before being taken to the hospital. Traffic on the expressway was blocked for about an hour after the accident. Later, after the police removed the two vans involved in the accident and took them to one side, the traffic flow became normal.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shibchar Highway Police Station Mizanur Rahman said, the incident took place when the Dhaka-bound Mini Covered Van lost control and rammed behind a large Covered Van standing beside the expressway. The bodies will be recovered and handed over to their family members after completing the legal process. The two accident vehicles have been taken into the custody of the highway police station. Legal action in this regard is under process.
