Court orders seizure of former Jaber VC Farzanas and husbands tax documents

A Dhaka court has ordered the seizure of income tax documents belonging to Farzana Islam, a former vice-chancellor of Jahangirnagar University, and her husband, M. Akhtar Hossain.

The order was issued on Thursday by Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Sabbir Faiz, following an application from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). The ACC requested the seizure as part of an ongoing investigation into allegations of widespread corruption against Farzana Islam and the involvement of her husband, son, and a third party in recruitment scams involving millions of taka.

The ACC's application stated that investigators suspect Farzana Islam and her husband may be concealing significant amounts of movable and immovable assets. The seizure of their tax records is deemed necessary for a thorough and impartial inquiry into the accusations.

Previously, in February, a court had imposed a travel ban on Farzana Islam, her husband Akhtar Hossain, and their son Pratik Tasdik Hossain, also at the request of the ACC.
