Killed due to conflict over stolen mobile phone

A teenage gang leader named Emon Hossain alias Alex Emon was publicly hacked to death in Mohammadpur of the capital last Sunday. Eamon Kishore was the head of the teenage gang 'Alex Group'. He was killed in a conflict with another group over a stolen mobile phone. Before the murder, the police initially found out that there was a back and forth chase between them on Sunday morning. Residents of the area are in panic after the murder.
Since the murder, various units of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) have been working to arrest those involved. In this incident, Emon's mother Ferdausi Begum filed a case at Mohammadpur Police Station as the plaintiff. 21 people have been accused in the case.
The police have arrested four people involved in the murder till Monday evening. Among these, Sunday from the scene. Saif (23), Tuhin (20) and Md. Rabbi Kazi (25) was arrested. After the case, their arrest was shown. And yesterday afternoon. Another accused named Suman (25) has been arrested. Three chapatis, a cutter, a steel plate were seized from the arrested persons from the spot. All four arrested are members of Armaan-Shahrukh group.
According to the concerned police sources, the murdered victim Emon Hossain alias Alex Emon used to control the area adjacent to Gate No. 1 of Rayerbazar Intellectual Cemetery for a long time. He used to collect subscriptions from mobile shops, autorickshaw garages, nurseries in that area. He was also involved in drug trade, theft and robbery. On the other hand, the members of another youth group named Armaan-Shahrukh control the area from Rayerbazar 2 lane to Kachabazar. The members of both the groups worked as associates of the top two terrorists of Mohammadpur area. There was already a conflict between these two groups based on the territorial expansion. Due to that dispute, this murder happened on Sunday.
Intelligence sources of DMP say that there was a chase incident between Eman and Armaan-Shahrukh group in Kamrangirchar area on Sunday morning. The fight broke out over a stolen mobile phone. After being chased, Emon and his people came to Rayerbazar No. 2 street area and another round of discussion took place between them. At one point around four in the afternoon, when Armaan and Shahrukh group members chased Emons, they tried to escape towards No. 1 lane of Rayerbazar slope. It was there that Eamon was hacked and seriously injured.
Later, the injured Eamon was rescued and taken to Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, where the doctors declared him dead. Soon after the incident, a CCTV camera footage went viral on social media. In the footage, 10 to 15 people from the opposing group are chasing Eamon with chapatis. At one point he fell in front of a house. Then surrounded by sharp weapons and beaten in different parts of the body. Eamon's left ankle was severed by the sharp weapon. At one point, the attackers left Iman on the street and fled. Three people were arrested from the spot while fleeing. According to the police, they have identified 10 to 12 people involved in the murder after seeing the footage of the CCTV camera. Efforts are underway to arrest them.
The police say that for a long time, Emon did not live in the area even though he had been carrying out criminal activities in the area adjacent to Rayerbazar's intellectual cemetery. He used to come there sometimes. He used to commit crimes and go out of that area again. Emon came to Rayerbazar from Savar on Sunday morning. As soon as he asserted his dominance in the area, he got into a conflict with Armaan and Shahrukh's group. Arman, the leader of the rival group, Shahrukh also lives outside Rayerbazar.
According to the police, there are 18 cases against the deceased Emon Hossain in Mohammadpur, Dhanmondi and Hazaribag police stations, including murder, drugs, extortion, robbery. Among them, there are two murder cases against him in Mohammadpur police station. He was also arrested in a case after August 5. He was released on bail after spending some time in prison. On the other hand, there are several cases in the name of Armaan and Shah Rukh in these police stations.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Tejgaon Division of DMP Ibne Mizan told Prothom Alo that Emon Hossain lived outside Mohammadpur. Sometimes he came to the area. He would cover up again by committing crimes. The police were looking for him for a long time. When he came to the area on Sunday morning, he got involved in a fight outside Mohammadpur. As a result of that incident, he was killed in the afternoon.
Going to the scene of Rayerbazar No. 1 street yesterday afternoon, it was seen that the place where Emon was killed was surrounded by pieces of brick and wooden piles. There are blood stains on the wall of the house next door. Pedestrians are walking around. On the way to and fro, some are standing there watching it.
Local residents say that sometimes such fights happen between two sides of juvenile gangs in this area. There was a back-and-forth chase with chapatis. In the evening, the area around the intellectual cemetery is robbed almost every day. However, they are terrified of the incident of public beheading during the day. They have closed their shops in fear.
According to the concerned sources, there has been concern about youth gang violence in Mohammadpur area for a long time. Multiple gangs have formed in different areas at different times. They are getting involved in various crimes including domination, extortion, robbery, encroachment. Most of the members of these gangs are youths, who try to spread influence in the area by displaying their power on social media. When someone from a group is arrested, they hide for a while. Later became active again under a different name.
Police say 8-10 forces are now active in Mohammadpur. These are known as Gangchil, Kabji Kata Anwar, Alex Eamon, Armaan-Shahrukh, Law Thela, Lada De, Lal Bahini, Biryani Suman Group, Akash Group, De Dakka. Members of these teenage gangs also spread pictures of them practicing with weapons on social media to intimidate their opponents.
Deputy Commissioner Ibn Mizan said 8-10 youth forces are active. When the members of the group come under the law, the activities of the group are slowed down. Later, another group emerged under a new name. They have been trying to control the gang culture of Mohammadpur-Adabar for a long time.
