If the farmers are good, the whole of Bangladesh can be good: Prime Minister

Prime Minister Tariq Rahman said, if the farmers of the country are prosperous, if the farmers of this country are alive, if the farmers of this country are well, then the whole of Bangladesh can live well. All the people of Bangladesh can live well.

The Prime Minister said this at the opening ceremony of distribution of farmer cards at Shahid Maruf Stadium in Tangail on Tuesday afternoon. At around 12:30 PM, he announced the inauguration of Krishak Card. Later, the farmer gave the card and tree seedlings to 15 farmers of Tangail.

Addressing the present farmers, Prime Minister Tariq Rahman said, 'The goal of the current government elected by your votes is to make farmers self-reliant. Making the farmer prosperous. That is why we have given this farmer card. In this, you must have been aware that we will try to deliver 10 benefits directly to the farmer through this farmer card. Through which 10 facilities the farmer will be able to change his position in many cases.

Regarding the current government's election promises and the farmer card, the Prime Minister said, "This farmer card was one of the promises we made to the people of the country before the election. Apart from this, we said that the farmers, especially those who had agricultural loans up to 10 thousand rupees till February 25; We will waive 10,000 taka agricultural loan with interest on that agricultural loan. We gave the commitment before the elections. By the grace of Allah we were able to complete that work within the first week after the election. Through which about 1.2 million farmers across Bangladesh got the facility. Today we have been able to reach only 22 thousand farmers with the benefits of this farmer card right now. Insha Allah there are 2 crore 75 lakh farmers. We will deliver farmer cards to these 2 crore 75 lakh farmers periodically in the next five years.

Greetings on Paila Boishakh, the Prime Minister said, 'Paila Baishakh is actually related to our farmers in Bangladesh. Be it in the field of agriculture or trade, the farmers used to open their accounts afresh. From there came this first Baisakh; This first Baisakh event has arrived. Since the main theme of Paila Boishakh is related to our farmer brothers, farmer sisters, that's why the Farmer Card Giving Ceremony. Today we announced the inauguration of our promise to the people of this country.

Regarding the canal digging programme, the Prime Minister further said, 'During the martyred President Ziaur Rahman, the farmers were brought under irrigation facilities by digging canals all over Bangladesh. You must have noticed that we said this to the people of Bangladesh before the election. After the elections ended, we started working as per our promise after the BNP was able to form the government by the grace of God with the votes of the people of Bangladesh. Our aim is to dig about 20,000 km of canals in the next five years.

Advisor to the Prime Minister Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Minister of State for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salauddin (Tuku), FAO Country Representative Ziaukun Si, Agriculture Secretary Rafiqul E Mohammed, Farmers Abul Hossain and Kishani Zulekha Akhtar spoke at the inauguration ceremony presided over by Agriculture Minister Mohammad Amin Ur Rashid.

Later, Prime Minister Tariq Rahman inaugurated the Agricultural Fair at Shaheed Smriti Municipal Park in Tangail. Later he visited various stalls of the fair.
