Those who call BNP a party of fascism lack knowledge: Mirza Fakhrul
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir commented that those who call BNP a party of fascism lack knowledge. The Minister of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives made this comment after inaugurating the divisional office of BRDB in the central bus terminal area of Rangpur Nagar on Monday morning in response to questions from journalists.
Regarding Jamaat-e-Islami Amir's speech, Mirza Fakhrul said that they should read the constitution of the party. They will judge whether Jamaat is a democratic party or not. BNP is a liberal democratic party. Through a long struggle, the party formed the government with two-thirds of the seats in the current parliament with the love of the people and their votes, so it is not right to call BNP a party of fascism.
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir's comment, 'BNT has come in charge of running the state not once, but five times. So those who call BNP a party of fascism either lack knowledge or their mind set-up is made that way.
In response to a question about the presidential election, the secretary general of BNP said that the decision of the standing committee of the party is final. Currently Speaker of Parliament Major Hafiz Uddin is serving as President. The presidential election will be held at the scheduled time as per the constitution and the party will finalize the candidate.
Regarding the local government elections, the local government minister said that the election commission will decide on the qualifications of the candidates. Local government elections may be held at the end of this year or early next year.
Mirza Fakhrul said that the government wants to build a commercial agricultural economy through interest-free loans and investments. He said that the government has waived interest on agricultural loans up to 10 thousand taka for agricultural development within four months. Apart from giving maximum allocation to agriculture, initiatives are being taken to process agricultural products, market them and build agro-based industries.
Later, the minister inaugurated the village fair at the Rangpur Town Hall grounds. Various tree saplings and loan checks were distributed among the beneficiaries there. Secretary of Rural Development Academy, Director General of BRDB, District and Metropolitan BNP leaders and officials of various government departments were present on the occasion.
