Paresh Ray dies before acquittal in legal case
A former security guard at the Janata Bank corporate branch in Faridpur has been posthumously acquitted by the High Court, sixteen years after he was accused in a high-profile heist involving the theft of nearly 10 million taka.
Paresh Chandra Das, who served as a guard at the branch when the robbery occurred, had spent years entangled in a legal battle that sought to hold him accountable for the missing funds. While the High Court ultimately cleared his name last year, the ruling came too late to provide the security guard with personal vindication, as he passed away before the judicial process reached its conclusion.
The case, which centered on the significant breach of security at the financial institution, had remained a point of contention for over a decade. By overturning the lower court's findings, the High Court’s decision acknowledges the lack of evidence linking Das to the crime, formally clearing a reputation that had been overshadowed by the incident for the final years of his life.
