Content Creator Prince Mamun Denied Bail in Attempted Murder and Dowry Case
A Dhaka metropolitan court on Friday denied bail to content creator Abdullah Al Mamun, widely known as Prince Mamun, and ordered him to be sent to jail following allegations of domestic abuse and attempted murder. Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Monirul Islam issued the order after hearing arguments from both the prosecution and the defense.
The case follows a complaint filed early Friday by the suspect’s wife, fashion model Atikia Faijah Mohona, at Bhatara Police Station. According to the First Information Report (FIR), police arrested Mamun late Thursday night at the victim’s residence in the city's Bashundhara residential area. During the proceedings, the investigating officer, Sub-Inspector Md. Yaur Rahman, requested that the accused be held in custody, while defense counsel pleaded for his release, asserting his innocence.
The victim stated that she and Mamun were married five months ago, but the relationship quickly deteriorated due to his alleged substance abuse and infidelity. According to court documents, Mamun had been consistently demanding a dowry of 10 million taka to fund a business venture. The victim alleged that her refusal to provide the funds led to persistent physical and psychological abuse.
Details in the FIR describe a violent confrontation late Thursday night, during which Mamun allegedly demanded the money again and insisted that his wife obtain it from her family. When she refused, the dispute escalated into a physical assault. The complaint alleges that Mamun punched, kicked, and attempted to strangle his wife. The victim sustained multiple injuries, including a bloody laceration beneath her left eye and blunt force trauma to her right ear.
