3 people were sentenced to death, 6 people were sentenced to life in the murder of the GP

The court sentenced three accused to death for murdering the general practitioner Rezaul Karim alias Abu Doctor in Rajbari’s Goland nearly seven years ago. Six accused were given life imprisonment.
Today, Tuesday, the judge of Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal-1. Rahibul Islam announced this verdict. Shamsuddin Jummon, bench assistant of the concerned court, confirmed this information.
The persons who received death sentence are Bablu Sardar, Tokon Sardar and Ghazia Sardar.
The persons who got life imprisonment are – Atar Ali Sardar, Raihan Sardar, Habibur Rahman alias Habi Sardar, Helal Khan, Zillu Bepari alias Kazi and Zia Mandal. Among them, Atar Ali is the former chairman of Union Parishad (UP).
The court acquitted the 13 accused in the case as the charges were not proved. Apart from this, two accused named Matiar and Alal Sardar (Majhi) died during the trial and they were acquitted.
After the announcement of the verdict, the lawyer for the state, Abdur Rashid Mollah, said that each accused has been fined 10,000 taka.
The murder of Rezaul Karim took place in October 2019. In this incident, his father Mubarak Mollah filed a case in the name of 37 people at Goaland Ghat police station.
Faridpur District PBI (Police Bureau of Investigation) investigated the case. The investigating officer of the case filed a charge sheet against a total of 22 people in the Dhaka court.
The case was sent to Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal for trial. On June 30, 2022, the trial began with the framing of charges against the accused. 29 out of 30 witnesses were admitted in the case.
