Body of youth found inside abandoned Dhaka residence of ousted leader Sheikh Hasina
Police discovered the body of a 19-year-old man hanging inside the abandoned Sudha Sadan residence, formerly the home of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi neighborhood on Saturday morning.
The victim, identified as Md. Shakil, a resident of the Jhigatola area, was found suspended from a wooden fixture with a nylon rope. Local citizens discovered the body within the derelict structure and alerted authorities at approximately 11:00 a.m.
Dhanmondi Police Station Sub-Inspector Ohidur Rahman confirmed the recovery and stated that the victim's identity was verified through fingerprint analysis. Following an initial investigation at the scene, the body was transported to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination.
While investigators are currently treating the case as a potential suicide, authorities have not ruled out other circumstances. Rahman emphasized that a definitive cause of death will only be established upon the completion of the autopsy and a broader investigation.
Sudha Sadan, long recognized as a symbol of power during the tenure of the now-ousted Awami League government, has remained vacant and largely in disrepair since the political upheaval of August 5, 2024. Following the collapse of the administration and Hasina’s departure from the country, the property was subjected to widespread vandalism, followed by a separate arson incident on February 6 of last year.
