Robbery suspect escapes police custody at Gazipur court premises
A robbery suspect escaped from the Gazipur District Court premises on Monday afternoon after successfully slipping out of his handcuffs while being transported to a courtroom. The escape occurred at approximately 2:30 p.m., triggering an immediate police mobilization to track down the fugitive.
The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Samrat Hossain, had been detained by the Gazipur Sadar Metropolitan Police in connection with a robbery case. Originally from Tattapara village in the Madarganj upazila of Jamalpur, Hossain had been residing in the Targach Barabari area under Gazipur’s Gacha Police Station.
According to police accounts, the incident unfolded as officers were escorting Hossain from the court lockup to the courtroom for judicial proceedings. Despite a swift pursuit by on-duty officers, the suspect managed to evade capture and fled the courthouse vicinity.
Gazipur Sadar Metropolitan Police Officer-in-Charge Md. Aminul Islam confirmed that Hossain faces multiple robbery charges across various police stations in the country. Law enforcement agencies have launched a coordinated search operation, utilizing information technology to locate and apprehend the fugitive.
