Physicist Mohammad Ataul Karim Launches New Book on Intellectual Growth
Prominent physicist and academic Dr. Mohammed Ataul Karim’s latest book, "Je Shurur Sesh Nei" (The Beginning That Has No End), was unveiled during a ceremony held Saturday afternoon at the YMCA building in Dhaka’s Kakrail. The event drew notable figures from the academic and medical communities, including Bangladesh Medical Research Council Chairperson Professor Dr. Sayeba Akhter and Brac University Distinguished Professor Dr. Mohammed Kaykobad.
Reflecting on the work during the launch, Professor Kaykobad lauded the collection of essays, noting that the depth of thought displayed in the writing is remarkable for a young author and serves as a testament to the intellectual rigor Dr. Karim has maintained throughout his career.
Born in 1953 in the Moulvibazar district, Dr. Karim has established a distinguished global career in academia and research. He currently serves as a professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. His tenure at the institution has included senior leadership roles, having previously served as provost, executive vice chancellor for academic affairs, and chief operating officer.
Dr. Karim’s background is rooted in a tradition of public service and civic engagement. He is the son of the late Dr. Muhammad Abdus Shukur, a pioneer of the anti-tobacco movement in Bangladesh, and Anwara Nuri Shukur. His new publication is expected to offer readers further insight into the scientific and philosophical perspectives that have defined his professional trajectory.
