Dhaka Court Denies Bail to Former Somoy TV Managing Director Ahmed Jobayer in Fraud Case
A Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate court on Sunday denied bail to Ahmed Jobayer, the former managing director of Somoy Television, in a case involving allegations of fraud, breach of trust, and forgery. Magistrate Israt Jahan issued the order following a hearing in which the state’s legal team formally opposed the bail petition.
Public Prosecutor Omar Faruk Faruki confirmed the court's decision to Prothom Alo. While defense counsel Farhad Hossain noted that other individuals named in the case have secured bail, Jobayer remains in custody, having been initially sent to jail on June 18 after surrendering to the court.
The charges stem from a complaint filed on May 10 by an individual named Syed Asaduzzaman, who accused the defendants of orchestrating fraudulent activities and fabricating documents. Following the filing, the court initially issued summons for the accused to appear by June 17.
When the defendants failed to comply with the court-ordered appearance, the magistrate issued arrest warrants for all six individuals named in the complaint. Although the other co-accused have since been granted bail, Jobayer’s legal counsel continues to navigate the judicial process following his initial remand last month.
