What Arifin Shubo said about that land in Purbachal
He said this in an exclusive interview given to BBC Bangla recently. Arifin Shubo has answered various controversies about his career ups and downs, personal life tragedies and the much talked about movie 'Mujib'.
Shubo came to the discussion for acting in the biopic of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman with a remuneration of only 1 taka. Later it was rumoured, in return, he received a gift of a 10 katha plot from the government.
Shubo said that no land was given to me. I simply applied, as did 151 other artists. I took Rs 1 out of passion for my father's freedom fighter identity, and the request was for future security. But there is no registration of that land, I did not go there.
Calling the year 2024 as one of the most difficult times in his life, Shubo said that in this year he lost his closest person, his mother. At the same time, his long married life also ended. He also claimed that Shubo was subjected to a kind of 'media trial' after the August 5 political change.
Shubo said that his knowledge in politics is very limited. I think I was targeted because of my role in the movie 'Mujib'. But I have been acting all my life. No one can ever prove me with anything political.
The actor is looking positively at not having his colleagues by his side during this difficult time, because this is how he got to know the real people. The actor sees his mother as an inspiration to fight for his life.
Narrating the story of 9 years of service and her hard struggle of a mother suffering from schizophrenia, Shuvo said, mother raised us by working for a salary of 9000 rupees. He gave me the mentality of not giving up.
Expressing regret about the mental health awareness in the country, he said that despite giving importance to physical illness, the society still does not want to consider mental suffering as a disease.
After a long audition through a casting agency in Mumbai, Shubo joined the new project 'City'. He is very hopeful for this work on the liberation war of Bangladesh and the musical culture of Kolkata. At the beginning of his career, he came to Dhaka with only Tk 257 in his pocket and dreamed of working for children with special needs in the future.
