Runa Laila to Perform Debut Solo Concert at Shilpakala Academy for Flood Relief
Legendary South Asian vocalist Runa Laila has returned to Bangladesh following a month-long trip to the United States, immediately turning her attention to a significant philanthropic effort. The renowned singer is set to headline a highly anticipated solo concert this Friday evening at the National Theatre Hall of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, with all proceeds from ticket sales dedicated to assisting victims of the country’s ongoing floods.
Organizers have confirmed that the total revenue generated from the event will be donated to the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund. This initiative marks a departure from traditional performances, positioning the concert as both a cultural milestone and a vital humanitarian mission.
Although Laila has graced countless stages throughout her illustrious six-decade career, this event serves as her first-ever solo concert at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. During the performance, she is expected to showcase 10 of her most iconic songs, spanning the breadth of her 62-year professional journey. As part of the evening’s program, the academy will also bestow a special honor upon the veteran artist.
Reflecting on the milestone, Laila expressed her enthusiasm for connecting with a new generation of listeners. She noted that while she has performed at the academy on rare occasions in the past, the format of a dedicated solo concert is a unique experience. She added that she looks forward to sharing cherished memories and compositions that have defined her legacy.
The tribute follows a tradition established by the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, which has previously held similar ceremonies to honor other stalwarts of the national music scene, including Sabina Yasmin and Syed Abdul Hadi.
