Son Arrested for Murder of Mother in Natore Following Dispute Over Property Construction

Police in Natore’s Singra upazila have arrested a man and his son following the discovery of a 75-year-old woman’s body, 15 days after she was reported missing. The investigation revealed a gruesome case of domestic violence fueled by a property dispute, leading to the arrest of the victim’s middle son, Janab Ali, and his son, Al Amin.
The victim, Maria Begum, also known as Sharifa, resided with her three sons in Agpara village. According to Natore Superintendent of Police Mohammad Shariful Haque, the conflict began on May 23 when Janab Ali attempted to construct a toilet in the family courtyard. When Maria Begum and her eldest son, Shahidul Islam, objected to the site selection, a dispute ensued. Two days later, the elderly woman disappeared.

The discovery was made on Tuesday when local residents observed stray dogs pulling at a discarded sack near a roadside pond. Upon investigation, they identified the remains of the missing woman and alerted the police. Authorities subsequently took Janab Ali and his son, Al Amin, into custody for questioning.
Under interrogation, Janab Ali confessed to strangling his mother at approximately 9 p.m. on May 25. He admitted that he initially buried the body in the hole he had dug for the toilet construction. When the decomposition began to emit a foul odor several days later, he enlisted his son, Al Amin, to help exhume the body, place it in a sack, and dump it in the nearby pond.

A formal case has been filed at the Singra police station charging the father and son with murder and the attempted concealment of a body. Both suspects were presented before the court on Wednesday. The proceedings were confirmed by local police officials, including Assistant Superintendent of Police Noor Mohammad Ali and the officer-in-charge of Singra police station.
