‘Joy Bangla’ slogan at the end of the speech, allegations of forcing the freedom fighter to apologise

It has been alleged that a brave freedom fighter was assaulted and forced to publicly apologize for shouting ‘Jai Bangla, Jai Bangabandhu’ at a meeting in Niamatpur upazila of Naogaon. The incident took place at Hajinagar Union Parishad (UP) of the upazila on Thursday afternoon. In this incident, intense anger and tension spread among people of various classes and professions including local freedom fighters.
The name of that brave freedom fighter is Mizanur Rahman. Allegedly, the freedom fighter was assaulted by a person identified as Alauddin and his associates. Alauddin is a resident of Maklahat village of Hajinagar union. Brave freedom fighters and conscious circles have demanded to investigate this incident and take action.

Talking to some eyewitnesses, it is known that brave freedom fighter Mizanur Rahman gave a welcome speech at the beginning of the open budget meeting of Hajinagar UP yesterday afternoon. At the end of the speech, he chanted Jai Bangla, Jai Bangabandhu. He immediately regretted that he had given the slogan by mistake. At that time, Alauddin, who was present at the meeting, created excitement by identifying himself as a youth worker. At one point he and his associates behaved disrespectfully to the freedom fighter and forced him to apologize again in front of everyone on the microphone of the venue.
Brave freedom fighter Mizanur Rahman told Prothom Alo, “We made the country independent in exchange of blood.” Given the times now it is dangerous for anyone to give this slogan. After saying Jai Bangla to Mukh Phos in yesterday’s meeting, I immediately admitted my mistake. Still I was humiliated in front of everyone and forced to apologize to Mike.’

When Alauddin was contacted on his mobile phone about the complaint, he claimed to be a youth worker. However, he could not show evidence of holding any position in the Youth Dal. He claimed, “Mizanur Rahman gave the slogan “Jai Bangla, Jai Bangabandhu” at one stage of his speech. Immediately some protested including me. When everyone gets excited, things go the other way. Later, Mizanur Rahman apologized to everyone on the mic. I alone am being blamed here.’
When contacted, Hajinagar Union BNP President Firoz Mahmud said, Alauddin claims to be the leader of BNP or Juba Dal but in reality he does not have any organizational position. He used the name of BNP to gain political advantage. He has been accused of involvement in various political activities in the past.
Convenor of Naogaon district unit of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad, Sirajul Islam told Prothom Alo, “I have heard the matter.” Harassing a freedom fighter for shouting “Joy Bangla” is sad. During the liberation war we also chanted “Jai Bangla, Jai Bangabandhu”. However, later this slogan was misused and made controversial.
